Some strings were never meant to be cut.

Joseph Zimmerman Jr. has spent his entire life in the shadow of his father’s genius; raised not with warmth, but with fear. Fear was the key, his father always said. The only lesson that truly sticks.

In the sterile quiet of their lab, a prototype stirs. A hybrid of machine and something terrifyingly close to human, built to prove that mortality has a cure. But the closer it inches toward life, the more it seems to have a mind of its own.

And it has been watching.

When creator and creation collide, Joseph finds himself trapped between the father he desperately wants to please and a prototype that may know him better than he knows himself. No one who gets too close is safe.

PN0K0 is a spine-chilling retelling of Pinocchio. This story is part of the Twisted Tales of Familiar Faces collection, featuring classic beloved characters twisted into terrifying nightmares.

I loved this excellent Pinocchio retelling! The sci-fi and horror elements worked really well together. Their were many twists that I never saw coming. It was a fun read from start to finish.

  2. Mike Clarkson

I really enjoyed this re-imagining of Pinocchio.
PN0K0 is a modernisation of the classic, with a digital aged mindset. Rather than a puppet, I’d class “him” as an AI droid, created to be as close to humans as possible. But he cannot understand, or process emotions as humans do, not quite getting the grey areas of black and white, leading to quite a few gory and warped activities.
A stark reminder of what can go wrong, if we keep pursuing this avenue in reality.
    Well worth a read.

  3. Christine Fancher

A twisted retelling of Pinocchio from a robotic stand point, father and son scientists work to make the robot sentient. Unfortunately things don’t go quite how they hoped and follow a bloodier path. Each attempt gets the robot closer to being a real boy, but the past of this creation is horrifying and must be let out!

  4. Jeff Edwards

5 stars for the surprise this story unfolded to be. The horror aspect of a Pinocchio retelling was on par for this series. Loved all of them. I recommend this series to anyone looking for an engaging read, and now a new one. As with all the writers in the his series, I am fully engaged to read Rachel’s other works. M4L books are must reads

  5. Terry M

An excellent twist on the fairytale, Pinocchio. A robot instead of a wooden puppet. Well written with a good storyline and unexpected twists. Highly recommended.

  6. Melissa

This book was a great horror version of Pinocchio. I have always thought Pinocchio was kinda weird / creepy anyways, but this take on it with a futuristic, robotic version was terrifying and great all at the same time. I honestly got to a point where I could not put it down! This was horror done right, it was gory, but in a way that you hung on every word, terrifying, and a little bit of a psychological trauma in the form of a story. If you like dark retelling a this one is for you!!

  7. Stefanie Silvestri

This book is a scary retelling of Pinocchio with science fiction and horror elements that mixed together really well. I would have never imagined Pinocchio as a robot. The story was so frightening and full of blood, with unexpected turns that kept me on the edge of my seat.

  8. Marlys

I thought this was a great modernization of the Pinocchio story, not as a puppet but as an AI robot. Lots of twists and turns to keep me interested in this short story.

  9. Calista

I thought this was such a creative take on Pinocchio. I loved all of the science involved. I found myself feeling deeply, not only for Jep and Anne, but the prototypes as well. This is a story about mistakes, but also learning to find ways to be better. PN0K0 was a story I couldn’t put down. I enjoyed it a lot.
