This story is part of the Twisted Tales of Familiar Faces collection.

Haunting nightmares are only the beginning.

For years, Serenity has been tormented by nightmares of a creature she believes abducted her childhood best friend from the bayou. The police dismissed her claims, attributing them to a wild animal attack and mere childhood confusion. But as an adult, the dreams of the monstrous Steamboat Willie and his decaying vessel grow increasingly vivid.

And relentless.

When Travis’s desperate cries echo through Serenity’s dreams once again, she knows it is more than just a figment of her imagination. Desperate for closure, Serenity returns to the bayou, determined to confront the monster she has tried to forget.

What she uncovers, however, is far more terrifying than her darkest nightmares ever imagined.

Steamboat is a corrupted retelling of Steamboat Willie. This chilling tale is part of the Twisted Tales of Familiar Faces collection, featuring classic beloved characters twisted into terrifying nightmares.

Whew, this one is creepy! Very dark story with such a shine of hope that you can’t help but fall in love with Serenity as she tries to deal with her best friend going missing as a teen.
I’ve never imagined Mickey Mouse could be scary, but, boy, I sure do now!

  2. Marlys

This is a wonderful story about how Serenity dealt with the demons of her past. I enjoyed it and I didn’t want the story to end.

  3. Clive Willcocks

This book is so much better than the last one in the Twisted Tales series. I really enjoyed it . I would d reckon it. Well worth a read

  4. Jeff Edwards

I loved this entry of the series. A horror retelling of Steamboat Willie and the author nailed it. A smooth and compelling read. Serenity and her story keeps the reader engaged for on the beginning and throughout.
With a little witches brew leading up to a twisted finale. Courtney Konstantine is the best.
A must read and best of the series yet

  5. Michael Clarkson

Well there were definitely no mice in this retelling…. What an awesome mind and imagination to come up with this wonderfully dark rendition of a classic cartoon. Would be nice to know more about where Willie came from, but then it wouldn’t be a short story, so….

  6. Terry M

Another great read in the twisted tales series. A mysterious boat, missing children and a confrontation years later of a child who escaped the horror. An excellent build up to an unexpected ending. Highly recommended.

  7. Riann Fletcher

I loved this deeply unsettling horror retelling of Steamboat Willie! Vivid descriptions of the grotesque Steamboat Willie are true nightmare fuel. Numerous twists made this book even more harrowing. This is one read that can’t be missed!

Another great book from Courtney. This tale was riveting from the beginning, which I loved. I couldn’t imagine going through the things this FMC did at such a young age. Just beware of triggers when entering this dark tale. Here are the ones I noticed.

    Parental Abandonment
    PTSD
    Gore
    Child Death
    Stalking

This is a dark retelling of Steamboat Willie. What I liked most about this story was the author’s ability to take a character like Mickey Mouse, who is typically associated with happiness and joy, and turn him into a frightening figure, which added to the overall creepy and dark atmosphere of the story. The book’s many twists and turns kept me engaged, making it impossible to put down. Make sure you check your trigger warnings before reading this book.

I adored this. Courtney Konstantin has a way of created this deep connection with the main character and the reader in all her books, from the very beginning I felt so bad for our MC and the horrors she had seen. I was rooting for her the entire time. The imagery were amazingly written and I loved every moment. I honestly don’t think anything Konstantin writes would disappoint me.

Never thought I’d ever say this but great job of turning a normally happy character into a horror character. Very creepy and well written story. Loved it!

  12. Ken Lingenfelter

Serenity loses her friend Travis to a monster called Steamboat Willie. No one believes her story. She has vivid nightmares about the event and Travis calling to her to save his soul. Serenity goes back to her hometown to try to save her friends soul. I could not stop reading this tale.

  13. Steve

This is a cracking story story. An unputdownable tale if every there was. By the the end I was utterly engrossed. I liked this book a lot. This author is a cracking writer that’s for sure. Recommended read.

  14. Christine

This retelling of Steamboat Willie with a creepy, dark twist was excellent! It had Wiccan, almost hoodoo type magic that I truly enjoyed. That always gives me a bit of the heebee jeebees.
Willie’s human like decaying body with his huge head with Mickey Mouse ears and terrifying maw haunt the FMCs dreams, calling her back home to help her lost friend.
This gave me IT vibes because of the decaying steamboat reappearing to claim more lives.
Steamboat is a quick read that kept me invested the whole time!
